Locked Out of Car

As Blount County specialists in towing and recovery, the team at Bradley’s Towing & Recovery has worked with customers throughout our area for towing, tire repair and lockout services for over 30 years. Lockouts are less common these days with the advent of key fobs, but there are times where lockouts can occur.

Lockouts can be an inconvenience for you and your family and have the potential for danger, especially if there are young children or animals in a vehicle. Ways to avoid lockout situations with your vehicle include:

  • Have a habit: If you have found that you have a knack for losing or forgetting your car keys, get into a habit of putting them somewhere you remember every time. Remind yourself to put your keys in your pocket, your bag, your backpack…anywhere that is easily remembered so that you can get into a habit with your keys every time.
  • Make a spare: If your vehicle uses a key, having a spare key that you keep at your house, in a bag, at your office or even with a family member can help you get back into your vehicle easily if you are locked out. Most vehicles have two key fobs that you can do the same thing with; in addition, many dealerships offer the opportunity to purchase additional fobs for a cost.
  • Check your electronic keys or fobs regularly: Electronic keys and fobs can lose power over time, so it is important to make sure that your electronic keys or fobs are working properly. If you notice that your electronic keys, chip keys or fobs are not opening your doors quickly, it may be time for you to have your key looked at by a dealership or professional to make sure that you are not locked out from your vehicle.

Lockouts can be inconvenient for you and in extreme situations, can be dangerous for children and pets.
